Korean Clothes

What do Milan, Paris, New York, London and Tokyo have in common? They are all among the most important cities in fashion.

But nowadays, more and more fashion centers are forming around the world to challenge these cities. Among them is Seoul, the capital of South Korea.

It hosts the popular fashion week twice a year. Fashion has always been a part of Korean culture, but it has never been as important (or popular) as it is today. Its designers are becoming more and more known worldwide and to the general public in Seoul and elsewhere in Korea? They are known for their impeccable sense of fashion in everyday life, for both men and women.

Korean Clothes: A pure Korean Style

Harmony and a sense of community are important traditional values in Korea, and you can see the intersection of these even in Korean fashion. This means that although there are hundreds of thousands of stores all over Korea, many of them sell the same style of clothes. At least, very similar clothes. This is also partly due to the fact that many clothing stores, especially the smaller ones, rely on local manufacturers. This can limit the variety of stores.

But that doesn't mean that everyone on the streets of Korea wears the same outfit. While many share the same sense of Korean Style, there are also marked differences in this style. Let's take a look at the different types of Korean style fashion.

THE KOREAN CLOTHES OF HONGDAE STREET

Although this particular style is not limited to those who hang out in the Hongdae area, it is the most common. In general, it is most common among young people in their twenties. It's a sort of streetweard-casual look, mixing rock and hip-hop aesthetics. The top, in particular, is often wide and tall in an Oversize style, but men also like the casual pants and shorts that go with it. Although it's a very unisex look, girls wear dresses and skirts that go well with the ulzzang look, too. Girls also like to mix more colors in their outfits instead of sticking to the predominance of black every time. Otherwise, this look is popular with both men and women. You can easily buy this look at many street stores in Hongdae, or order our Korean Style collection online at the KPOP Store.

KOREAN CLOTHES FOR THE BOTTOM

On the other hand, the trend is absolutely to miniaturize the lower body in Korea for many years. And there doesn't seem to be any change in the short term! Mini skirts, short shorts and mini dresses are definitely in fashion. Unfortunately, this poses a problem for girls who have slightly wider hips or bigger butts, as the hems may even be too short for them to wear. But if Korean women like to show off their legs, they usually wear underwear (or skirts are equipped with them), to protect themselves from showing a little too much.

The skirts are usually either tennis skirts or bodysuit skirts, in both cases they are usually high-waisted. For shorts, denim shorts are particularly popular.

KOREAN CLOTHES FOR THE TOP

Although Koreans are not deeply religious, their values are rooted in conservatism. So, to some extent, women are expected to act and look pure, or at least classy. This means that it is frowned upon for Korean women to dress too revealingly, especially in the upper half. In other words: cover your shoulders, chest and stomach. Better yet, don't wear clothes with a bare back.

Of course, the rules on this are getting laxer and laxer as Korean fashion and trends for Korean women evolve. While you won't see many women wearing backless tops or tank tops, many women still like this style these days. And although the chest is still covered, these types of tops have become a big trend. They are especially popular to be combined with pants, shorts and high-waisted skirts.

THE KOREAN OVERSIZE STYLE

From tops to coats, and from pants to dresses, Korean women love to wear big, baggy clothes to hide their shape. They are especially popular for casual wear, existing even as dresses-pants, and focused on maximum comfort. They also offer a cute but effortless look. Many women like to combine a coreenoversize garment with a tighter garment, usually a t-shirt, blouse or loose sweater, with jeans or a tight skirt. Others may wear an oversized top with a loose bottom, which is another type of popular Korean style that is gaining popularity among Koreans.

KOREAN OUTFITS IN THE HEAT

Following the idea that you shouldn't show your shoulders or show a little too much at the chest, thin clothing was born. And by thin clothing, we mean wearing a simple t-shirt or long sleeve top under a strapless dress. Girls can either mix and match as they wish, or find easily achievable outfits for sale in any boutique, usually at low prices. And that's not the only way they do this style of ensemble. You can do it any way you can imagine! Even lace dresses over pants are possible!

UNIFORM KOREAN CLOTHES

As you may already know, in Korea, you wear a school uniform throughout your school years. But this school uniform is also part of the daily Korean fashion, especially for women. The integral part of this look is the lined skirt, which can be in one color or in a plaid pattern. The possibilities of pairing it are almost endless, from a simple t-shirt to a cardigan over the shirt.

COUPLE'S CLOTHING IN KOREA

And of course, it's a fashion statement in its own right when a couple in Korea wears matching clothes. It's quite normal in Korea for couples to buy not only a matching item for each other, but also complete outfits, from backpacks to shoes! So if you ever get a Korean bae, maybe this is a trend you'll be a part of too?
